Elena Maria Garcia
Elena is a first-generation Cuban-American artist/mami of two/working professional/creative chef/life coach/lawn manicurist/cleaning service/ mechanic/school project engineer/cupboard stocker/hair stylist and colorist/chauffer/holistic healer/fortune teller/adjunct/Santa Claus/Easter Bunny/Tooth Fairy/and wife of 25 years. She is a three-time recipient of the Carbonell Award, and was last seen at the Adrienne Arsht Center in her one-person show, Fuácata! or A Latina’s Guide to Surviving the Universe which she co-wrote with Stuart Meltzer of Zoetic Stage. She is the founder of Separate Checks Improv Troupe, Quien Sigue A Quien, and Big Purse and Matching Shoes. Elena has taught improvisation and acting for over 30 years, and currently teaches at Universal Acting, New World School of the Arts, Nova Southeastern University, and Florida International University. She is a member of the Screen Actors Guild and Actors’ Equity. Elena would like to thank her daughters, Ana and Emma; her husband, Jerry; Mami; and her friends and students for their support. She dedicates her performance to her father, Dr. Francisco N. Garcia, and Tori Velle Fortney whose love for the magic of theatre will go on.
