A regular stage director for West Palm Beach's only resident professional theatre, Palm Beach Dramaworks. J. Barry Lewis has been named the theatre's Resident Guest Director.

“We are pleased and honored that J. Barry Lewis is officially joining the Dramaworks staff. He has had a long affiliation with our organization, serving as guest director and board member. For several years he has worked collaboratively with me, and he has become a trusted advisor," stated William Hayes, Dramaworks' Producing Artistic Director. "Barry shall continue to rotate duties with me as production director, and shall assist in developing various new programs, such as the Master Playwright Series and New Play Development Series, as well as other educational and community outreach initiatives."

Mr. Lewis' most recent credit is the Dramaworks acclaimed production of Side by Side by Sondheim. Previous musical outings at Dramaworks include the award-winning production of Jacques Brel is Alive and Well and Living in Paris and the Kurt Weill revue, Berlin to Broadway. His association with Palm Beach Dramaworks began in 2004 when he staged the classic absurdist drama No Exit. That was followed by productions of The Boys Next Door, and the Carbonell award  nominated That Championship Season. This past season he staged the Harold Pinter drama Betrayal and is scheduled to direct A.R. Gurney's The Fourth Wall in December and Michael Frayn's Benefactors in April. In January, he staged a successful revival of the murder mystery Deathtrap for the newly restored Maltz Jupiter Theatre . He served as the Festival Artistic Coordinator of City Theatre Summer Shorts, America's annual short play festival located at the new Carnival Center for the Performing Arts in Miami. He is a multiple recipient of the Carbonell award  for Direction and was recently honored with the Theatre League of South Florida REMY Award for Leadership and Service to the Arts in South Florida. When not directing for the stage, he serves as a Cultural Officer for the United States State Department, Bureau of Education and Cultural Affairs. Mr. Lewis is a long time member and supporter of the work of the Society of Stage Directors and Choreographers.
