Palm Beach Dramaworks
as part of Read Together Palm Beach County 2010 Finale
Monday, May 3rd (5:30pm) - Harriet Himmel Theatre

Palm Beach's only resident professional theatre, Palm Beach Dramaworks, will participate in the grand finale of "Read Together Palm Beach County: One Book, One Community 2010" on Monday, May 3rd (5:30PM) at the Harriet Himmel Theatre (CityPlace, West Palm Beach). Uniquely integrating text, music, and movement the company headed by Dramaworks' veteran actor Dan Leonard will perform a staged excerpt from the novel The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. The event is FREE and open to the public; however, reservations are necessary. Please call 800-273-1030.

This past January almost 3,000 votes were cast by the public, with Zusak's award-winning book selected as the book for everyone to read in Palm Beach County from March 26 through April 30. Sponsored by the Literacy Coalition of Palm Beach County, the finale will also include a live interview from Australia with the author. In addition, Palm Beach Post staff writer Frank Cerabino will entertain with his accordion, a musical instrument which is central to the book's plot.

The Book Thief tells the story of a German foster girl in the 1940s who scratches out a meager existence for herself by stealing when she encounters something she can't resist -- books. She learns to read and shares her stolen books with the Jewish man hidden in her basement before he is marched to Dachau. The novel is an extraordinary testament about the remarkable, powerful ability of literature and books to feed the soul. Critically acclaimed by The New York Times, it is a favorite among both adult and teen book club readers.

"Read Together Palm Beach County - One Book, One Community" is a partnership between the Literacy Coalition of Palm Beach County, The Libraries of Palm Beach County, ImMEDIAcy Public Relations Inc., the Palm Beach County Cultural Council  and The Palm Beach Post.

The event is free and open to the public; however, reservations are necessary. Please call 800-273-1030.
